Food in The Bluebell

We were able to park behind the pub where there is a gate to the rooms. It was a small studio courtyard room with nice extra touches like bathrobes and a fridge with cake & fresh milk. Bed was quite comfy, the linens were nice, but the pillows very flat. Unfortunately there was an awful smell coming from the bathroom, which didn't seem to be the loo & more the shower drain, so we kept the door closed & the light/fan on, which lessened the smell. Dinner was very tasty, as was breakfast, although the chef was left alone to cook & serve the breakfast, so it made it a little awkward & took some time. Obviously the missing staff member could have had an emergency, so hopefully they are ok. All in all & nice stay.

Friendly busy traditional pub serving good food, with beautifully (newly) appointed rooms in the courtyard. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fresh milk, kettle all provided in the rooms which were well fitted out and comfortable. A very responsive landlady (Elena) who made us feel most welcome. Food service was a little slow on Saturday night, but it was very busy with a couple of large parties and they were a couple of staff down. They did their best under the circumstances, and the food was good when it came. It’s good to see a pub in a small village so well supported.

Lounge or bar in The Bluebell

Everything! Staff and service were excellent from the moment we got there until we left! The deluxe room was beautiful- spotlessly clean with some lovely extras like fresh milk and cake as well as delicious coffee. The food can only be described as amazing, with generous portions served both at breakfast and our evening meal- so much so, there was no room for pudding! The Bluebell was genuinely dog friendly- our dog was made to feel very welcome. I cannot recommend this place highly enough both for quality and value for money! We will definitely go back!

Excellent food, we enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner all of which were varied and of a high standard coupled with really friendly service plus at lunch/dinner some great beers .... and a great red Rioja which punches way above its price point! I particularly liked the fact that I was able to take my dog with me who was also made very welcome and even given recommendations for places to take her for a walk! My Mate was delighted as while quietly watching football on his iPad it was spotted by one of the Team and the TV switched on for him to see it on the bigger screen👍

Food close-up in The Bluebell

Breakfast was exceptionally well cooked on both mornings and served promptly and with a smile. I was made to feel like a valued customer. My room was perfect. I was able to park right outside my door so felt that my vehicle was safe and it was easy for me to unload. I was left with milk in a bottle in the fridge and enough tea and coffee for far longer than I was staying. I was also left water and fresh orange juice in the fridge along with cake and shortbread. Even the hair dryer had a long lead so I could actually look in the mirror when I used it. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a good sized shower with hair and body gel provided. I had lasagne for my first dinner which was home cooked and absolutely delicious and the steak I had on the second evening was cooked (rare) to perfection.

This old pub has such history, which is nicely celebrated by the owners. Its location and connections with the poet John Clare make it a destination for those interested in his life and history. The pub is friendly, and the evening menu is very good, catering for all tastes and delicious.

Pleasantly surprised by this pub with rooms, having stayed in similar-looking pubs, similarly priced, that were only so-so. Comfortable, clean and thoughtfully kitted-out room. Very good dinner, chosen from an extensive menu. Breakfast also very good and service excellent. Quiet location but close to where we wanted to go, with good road links. Rooms appear to be all in separate single-storey buildings in the grounds of the pub itself.

Restaurant/places to eat in The Bluebell

Breakfast (full english and egg on toast) was lovely. Small window for breakfast (7:30 - 8:30) so disappointing that we had to get up so early. Cereals didn't come out until later so we missed them. Room was cosy and adequate for one night. however, bed was creaky & uncomfortable. No heating in bathroom. No coat hanging space for clothes. Staff at Bluebell all very friendly.

I travelled here and stayed with my dog, check in / out was relaxed and friendly. The rooms are cosy and clean with all necessities available including a mini fridge, tea coffee etc the en suite shower room was clean, smart and user friendly. The bed was also comfy, it was a warm night but they already had a fan plugged in should I need it which I was very grateful for.
